Current Projects - Preparing Students for Academic Success
The Junior League of Indianapolis has been committed to the health and education of children and their families for the past 90 years. Currently, JLI has a particular emphasis on education and preparing students for academic success. Our projects are focusing on social support, family support, and access to books/educational materials.
Social Support (Tutoring and Mentoring)
School on Wheels Tutors in Action – provide one on one or small group tutoring for families living in transitional housing
Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis – facilitate outreach program for girls which equip them with the skills and resources needed to confidently pursue their educational and career goals and to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Since 2009, JLI volunteers have led at least 203 Girls Inc. programs and logged more than 4,654 volunteer hours! We have helped girls learn how to resolve conflict in the Work It Out programs, fostered their positive self-esteem during Redefining Beauty, and put them on the path to financial independence in Economic Literacy.
Indy Reads Family Literacy – explore community needs and pilot a new program to expand the Indy Reads tutoring program to include a family literacy component
Access to Books & Educational Materials
Day Nursery Emerging Readers – provide early literacy classroom materials, enhance lending libraries to encourage family reading time at home
Happy Hollow Children's Camp – revitalize camp library and expansion to campers’ cabins along with providing reading material to the campers throughout the year
