I hope everyone is staying healthy! With summer knocking at our door, I hope you can enjoy the warmer weather and outdoor activities that may make social distancing a bit more bearable for all of us.
While we are unable to be in person for our Annual GMM next week, May 28th, I look forward to seeing all of you! The meeting will be important in marking the transition of the league year and celebrating the many accomplishments of the league. If you have not registered, please do so on digital cheetah today!
In early April, a Response Task Force was established to help guide our response during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the task force is to identify needs of the Indianapolis community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, evaluate and create ways for the Junior League of Indianapolis to address those needs, and aid the community through engagement projects supported by our members. To connect with the task force for assistance or ideas, please email JLIResponse@gmail.com. To see what the task force has been up to, view our COVID-19 Response Resource Page.
Notably, JLI has contributed $1,000 to the People for Urban Progress (PUP) Indy Mask Project. Funds will support the production of 200 protective fabric masks for community health centers, childcare centers for families of first responders and long-term care facilities. JLI is also providing virtual mask making training opportunities to sew masks for Eskenazi Health. Eskenazi serves populations disproportionately affected by health challenges and disparities.
In light of Governor Holcomb and Mayor Hogsett’s recent executive orders regarding new guidance for stay at home procedures, we are actively building plans to slowly, safely, and carefully phase into new operations for the upcoming 2020-2021 League year, following guidance from medical, government, and AJLI officials. All in-person internal and external events through August 1 have been postponed or cancelled. We continue to evaluate on a weekly, and even daily, basis.
We strongly encourage members to utilize digital alternatives to in-person meetings like our new JLI Zoom accounts. Please reach out to your council vice president for more information on how to use a Zoom account. The JLI office will continue to be closed to both members and staff until August 1st.
This has been a trying time for us personally as well as for the Indianapolis community. The league’s mission to train our members and better our community is more applicable now than it has ever been. I am so proud of the work our members are doing on the frontlines to combat this virus.
Soon, we will all be together again!
