Training & Personal Development
The Junior League of Indianapolis was founded as an organization that trains women to be effective leaders and volunteers within the community. According to our mission statement: The Junior League of Indianapolis is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The training JLI provides to our volunteers is what sets us apart from other volunteer organizations.
The JLI provides training for its members in the following ways:
Leadership Development Course - this course is designed to bring together the emerging and potential leaders of the Junior League of Indianapolis and train them in varying leadership skills through a series of professional programs. The course also seeks to inspire participants to accept leadership roles within the Junior League of Indianapolis and our community.
Personal Improvement Challenge (PIC) - these trainings help JLI members develop skills that will benefit them not only in their JLI and volunteer roles, but also in work and their family life. Examples of topics include Financial Planning 101, Time Management and Identity Theft.
All Leadership Training is an orientation for existing and incoming leaders that provides information on how to be an effective leader.
General membership meetings provide training in a large group setting by providing speakers who cover such topics as volunteering, ovarian cancer, women's health issues and leadership styles.
Sectionals take the place during November and provide trainings on various topics such as HIV 101, Keys to Motivating Others and Organizing for the Holidays.
Placements are a source of training by their nature. For example, volunteers can receive training in event planning, fund raising and attain skills in sales and marketing by serving on the Holiday Mart committee.
The Provisional Course teaches the newest members about the JLI and the importance of our community involvement.
