Transferring to or from other Junior Leagues
What does it mean to transfer my membership in the Junior League?
One of the benefits of membership in the Junior League is that your membership has transferability. The Junior League of Indianapolis is one of 294 Leagues, which has over 169,000 members in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain. The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. (AJLI) unites all Junior Leagues.
Any Provisional, Active or Sustaining member of the Junior League has the privilege of transferring their membership from one Junior League to another. Any member who transfers to another Junior League will be granted the same membership status in the receiving Junior League as the member had in the transferring league. Members may only transfer in a classification recognized by the Association.
How do I transfer my membership to the Junior League of Indianapolis?
The steps for transferring your membership to the Junior League of Indianapolis are listed below:
1. Notify your current League that you would like to transfer your membership to the Junior League of Indianapolis.
Be sure to tell your current League: (a) your new address,
(b) your new phone number, and
(c) any other new contact information.
2. Your current League will notify the Junior League of Indianapolis and the AJLI of your intentions to transfer your membership to Indianapolis.
3. The Junior League of Indianapolis will send a welcoming letter to you notifying you of any dues you owe and the transfer fee of $25. If you transfer to the Junior League of Indianapolis prior to October 1, you will owe ½ your dues to your current league and ½ your dues to the Junior League of Indianapolis. Your current league shall have the responsibility of collecting and paying your AJLI dues. If you transfer after October 1, all dues are payable to your current league and you will only be responsible for the Transfer fee.
4. The Transfer Committee Chairman of the Junior League of Indianapolis will then contact you to let you know about transfer activities, requirements and placement opportunities.
How do I transfer my membership from the Junior League of Indianapolis to another league?
The steps for transferring your membership to another Junior League from Indianapolis are listed below:
1. Send written request to the Membership Vice President of the Junior League of Indianapolis. Be sure to include your new address, new phone number, and any other new contact infomration.
2. The Junior League of Indianapolis will then notify you, the receiving Junior League and the AJLI of your intentions to transfer your membership.
3. Your new League will send you a letter confirming the transfer. Every League is different; the new League may charge a transfer fee and depending on the time of year you may be required to pay additional dues. If you transfer from the Junior League of Indianapolis prior to October 1, you will receive a refund for ½ your dues, excluding the AJLI dues. If you transfer after October 1, there is no refund of your dues.
