President’s Message

A Message from our President
Welcome to the Junior League of Indianapolis.
For more than a century and through bold ideas, strategic partnerships, and the leadership of women committed to driving change, the Junior League of Indianapolis has helped shape the future of the place we call home: Indianapolis.
We are a community of women building a stronger Indianapolis together. We step up, lead with purpose, and learn through action. Some of us joined looking for connection. Others came to grow their skills, make a meaningful impact, or deepen their roots in the community. Whatever the motivation, every member finds something powerful here: purpose, belonging, and the confidence to lead.
Our members leave the League ready to take on the world. They serve in public office, lead nonprofit organizations, chair PTAs, and drive change in their workplaces and neighborhoods. Their journey often begins here: where they gain hands-on experience, build their voice, and lead through service.
The Junior League’s legacy is woven into the fabric of Indianapolis. We helped launch the Occupational Therapy program at Riley Children’s Hospital. We owned and operated the “Next to New” thrift shop. For over five decades, our Holiday Mart has raised countless funds to fund community initiatives. Our membership spends thousands of hours, every year, in service to our community. Again and again, when our city has faced a gap, whether in services, resources, or advocacy, the Junior League has stepped in to meet the need.
But membership is about more than volunteerism. It’s about growing as a leader, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with driven, mission-minded women, and using your strengths to make a lasting impact.
We believe in civic engagement. We believe in women as catalysts for change. We believe in the difference we can make together. And we believe all of that rests on a membership experience that matters.
With gratitude,
Alex Kennedy
President, Junior League of Indianapolis
