JUNIOR LEAGUE OF INDIANAPOLIS AND AUSOME INDY TO HOST SENSORY-FRIENDLY TRUNK-OR-TREAT EVENT

INDIANAPOLIS—The Junior League of Indianapolis (JLI) will host its 2nd Sensory-Friendly Trunk-or-Treat event with community partner Ausome Indy at Garfield Park on Sunday, October 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. The free event will include festive-themed trunks, games and candy.

Trunk-or-Treat allows families to enjoy Halloween festivities in an environment designed specifically for children who may struggle with traditional trick-or-treating due to sensory sensitivities. With the help of community partner Ausome Indy, a local organization committed to supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and those in the foster and kinship community who need sensory accommodations, JLI’s sensory-friendly event will feature decorated vehicles, adaptive activities, and scare-free costumes that will allow children to participate in the Halloween fun at their own comfort level.

“Our Sensory-Friendly Trunk-or-Treat is about creating a joyful and welcoming space where every child can experience the excitement of the season in their own way,” said Amber Finley, President of the Junior League of Indianapolis. “We’re proud to provide a fun, safe, and inclusive environment that embraces every child’s unique needs.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to co-host this special Trunk or Treat event for our Ausome community,” said Kate Miller, co-founder of Ausome Indy. “This event provides a supportive environment for children with autism who may need a little extra time picking out candy, enjoying the decorations, and/or processing all the lights, smells and noises of the season. It’s open to children of all abilities, providing families with a safe, inclusive space to enjoy trick or treating together.”

To keep numbers manageable and alleviate sensory overload for children who may be uncomfortable with large groups and noises, JLI and Ausome Indy are asking families to register in advance for attendance. Click here to register now: bit.ly/ausomeoct20

In addition to volunteerism, JLI hosts several fundraising events that contribute to its grant programs, including its largest fundraising event, Holiday Mart. The holiday shopping experience will return for its 53rd year on Friday, November 15, and Saturday, November 16, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
